Shalom!

My name is Rabbi Zoe McCoon (You can call me Rabbi Zoe). I am a Reform rabbi with two home bases: the Bay Area and Michigan. I am the proud product of a Midwest upbringing, small Jewish communal life, and an interfaith family whose Jewish side represents the broad spectrum of Jewish practice. I am an Alumna of University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati (Go Graeters!).

I love to walk alongside others as we search for ourselves, our beliefs, and our aspirations reflected back to us within Judaism. It is my pleasure to serve as a guide in the search for connection, relevance, comfort, joy, and fun within Jewish practice, ritual, and learning.

Three big passion areas for me are Music, Justice work, and Geeking Out:

  • Music: I love to listen to music, I love to sing along to others' music, and I love to create music-filled experiences. These days, I channel my passion for music through Vocal performance, Guitar/Song-leading, Writing arrangements with harmonies.

  • Justice Work: I am grateful to have been raised in a family and community that prioritized making the world better in the ways we can. I went on to be inspired by Women/Gender Studies courses during my undergraduate studies! Since that time, I have written a rabbinic thesis on and taught on topics related to Healthy Relationships with Ourselves & Others; received training to support survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; worked for a reproductive health clinic and participated in organizing and educating around Reproductive Justice;  worked on an Urban Farm in Detroit while teaching about the importance of Sustainability, Awe in Nature, Food, and Equity

  • Geeking Out: There is no better feeling than getting really into a new learning area and being energized or pulled in. I am always getting excited about new books and podcasts I am learning about - and I love to hear about what others are excited about!
